For obvious reasons our Github code for Bittorrent-based token economy is separated from passport-grade identity system with experimental zero-knowledge proof system. (throwaway because I don't want to be ambushed about this later)
Those two pilots, by the way, have yet to materialize. They are here framing two small pilots in two Dutch municipalities to be a production ready system. They also say that they have "presented the ground work for a Self-Sovereign Identity solution which is in production in the Netherlands for use by citizens in the latter half of 2018".
The documentation about ZKPs for example states "it was decided to leave zero knowledge proofs out of the application for now, until a better library comes around", while the paper claims that this is core part of the solution. There is some work being done by course students here ( ), but this is very far from "ready for global adoption". New Dutch digital passport solution ready for global adoption", but there isn't a shred of evidence to back this up. The conclusion paragraph is really bordering on academic misconduct. They claim that this is about the "deployment" of an identity platform, but they only talk about several student projects during a blockchain course given by Pouwelse. Apart from the mountains of grant money and severly broken crypto ("set aside 'RSA without blinding' this is RSA without padding.") which might or might not be fixed by now, I think the main point is that: "Tribler has a very long history of making high profile claims and never being able to follow through with actually usable software".Īnd it seems they're doing it again, now even making clearly false claims. What I received was a rather amusing snapshot of the (in my opinion) slightly seedier torrent ecosystem, all which had been shared via my internet connection. When complete, I investigated the special ‘collected_torrent_files’ folder which was filled with 431 different torrent files that I had played a very small part in downloading and uploading for my anonymised peers 3 Triber-hops away.įaced with a treasure-trove of data, I set about mining the torrent files with a small script
In my super non-scientific study I ran Triber under the 3-hops slow maximum-anonymity mode for a total of about 4 hours whilst I downloaded a single TV Episode Linux ISO.
But the trade off is torrenting other people’s files for them. This in turn should shield you from legal or disconnection threats and better anonymises your bittorrent use. By downloading random people’s files for them, other people will download files for you, thus breaking direct links between (for example, copyright infringing) material and your home IP adrdress. Tribler (Wikipedia) makes its own onion routing network just for Bittorrent.
